The Rev. John Swanson, 77

The Rev. John L. Swanson, age 77, formerly of Alexandria, Valencia, California, and Anoka, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2012 in Leawood, Kansas after complications from leukemia.

The Rev. John L. Swanson, age 77, formerly of Alexandria, Valencia, California, and Anoka, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2012 in Leawood, Kansas after complications from leukemia.

John was born in Sycamore, Illinois, attended Bethel College and Seminary and served as pastor in the Baptist General Conference for more than 30 years. John continued to share God’s love and good news until the day he died.

He served as chaplain to many nursing homes in Anoka and Coon Rapids before moving to Kansas. John was a dedicated member of International Bible Givers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Iola; brothers, Carl and Joseph.

John will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Virginia; their children, Ken (Susan), Linda (Paul) Dosser, Janis (Michael) Hedstrom, and Jonelle (Todd) Johnson; along with 13 grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his sisters, Betty Brecheisen and Barb Remer.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at Christ Community Church in Leawood, Kansas, with visitation one hour before. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassion International and International Bible Givers.
