Terry L. Ferguson, 52, Alexandria, died April 5, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul after suffering from a sudden stroke.

Terry was born in Worthington on October 10, 1959, the son of Ron and Ruth (Johnson) Ferguson. He moved with his family to Alexandria in 1964 and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1977.

He attended college at Moorhead State University and the University of Minnesota and in 1980 joined with his brother, Tim, in Ferguson Brothers Excavating. On April 25, 1981, Terry was united in marriage to Anita Redig. The couple raised three children, Sara, Chad and Ben.

Terry loved his family, friends, fun and food – in that order and often. He adamantly insisted on good foundations in life, from excavating and building a physical structure to developing a spiritual foundation through his relationships and support. Terry’s big heart, hospitality and generous spirit touched many. Wherever he could, he used what he had to make lives better: his skills in excavating, his home as a haven, his resources to put food on tables and roofs over heads. Terry’s mode of living was “work hard, play harder.” He rejoiced in providing a wholesome place for kids to have fun, and he liked nothing better than diving into whatever activity was going on, right along with the kids; playing as hard as anyone. Terry was a “right now” kind of guy. If something needed to be done, he would lead the charge and get it done right. He loved a challenge, so if someone would say can’t, he’d find a way.

He passed courageously and graciously from this life to his eternal home, where he was welcomed with: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

He is survived by his wife, Anita Ferguson of Alexandria; daughter, Sara Ferguson of St. Louis Park; sons, Chad (Laura) Ferguson of Charlotte, NC, and Ben (Brianna) Ferguson of Fargo, ND. Also surviving is his dad, Ron Ferguson of Garfield; and brothers, Tim (Jean) Ferguson of Alexandria, Tony (Patti) Ferguson of Chanhassen and Todd (Chin) Ferguson of Las Vegas.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ferguson.

Memorial services were held Monday, April 9 at Alexandria Covenant Church with the Rev. John LeVahn officiating. Nancy Holm was the organist and special music was provided by Tony Pitschka and Robin Hibschman.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net.
