Mary was born June 13, 1922 in Garfield, the daughter of Carl and Dena (Kloehn) Klug. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Garfield.
While working as a waitress at the Garden Center, Mary met Gordon Zehner and on September 26, 1943 the couple was married at St. John’s Church. Mary and Gordon raised their family in the Leaf Valley area where they were members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Mary was very involved at Ebenezer in the Ladies Aid.
Gordon died in 1972 and Mary continued to live in the Leaf Valley area until she moved to Alexandria. During this time she was very active at Zion Lutheran Church and worked at Knute Nelson and volunteered there for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, reading the Bible and many other books.
She is survived by her children, James of Evansville, Katherine (Milton) Ost of New Hope, Bonnie (Ken) Diedrich-Houston of Emmet, Idaho; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 4 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Pallbearers were her grandsons and nephews. Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery in Leaf Valley.
