Lorraine R. Jenks, 91, Lowry, died March 4, 2012 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 12 at Lowry Community Covenant Church (formerly Ben Wade Covenant Church) in Lowry.

Interment was held on Tuesday, March 13 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Lorraine Ruth Jenks was born on June 23, 1920, to Jens and Clara (Nelson) Lokken at their family farm near Northwood, Iowa.

She graduated salutatorian from Northwood High School in 1938, and from Iowa State Teacher's College. She taught school in Iowa and Texas.

On June 12, 1943 she was married to Scott B. Jenks of Austin, Minnesota, at the Air Force Base in Big Springs, Texas.

When Scott was discharged from the Air Force in 1946 they moved to the Austin, MN, area where they resided until 1952 when they moved to the farm they bought near Lowry. There, Lorraine and her husband, Scott, raised their six children as they served the Lord in their church and community.

Lorraine enjoyed (and was accomplished in) cooking and baking, sewing and quilting, making lefse and reading, keeping her plants and flowers green – both in her house and outside. Lorraine was thankful for her family and faithfully prayed for them. She liked sweets (especially pie!) and coffee, which she enjoyed even more when she could share them with family and friends. Living out her love for the Lord was the priority of her life – whether teaching or leading Sunday School, giving her best in the places where she was employed, or sharing the eternal truths with those to whom she talked, especially her grandchildren and great-grand children.

As she spent the last several years in care facilities, even though weakened physically, Lorraine lifted the spirits of those who cared for her.

An anchor verse of her Christian faith, John 3:16, was on her lips until minutes before God called her to her permanent home.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Sherilynn (Bert) Englund, of Farwell; LaVonne (Lindell) Quam of Osakis; Everett (Gretchen) Jenks of Franksville, WI; James (Sue) Jenks of Williston, ND; Earl (Lois) Jenks of Lowry; and Lee (Joyce) Jenks of Lowry. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Lokken of Albert Lea, as well other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Scott, in 1979; an infant daughter, Sharon LaVonne; and her brother Burnell Lokken.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to all who befriended her, encouraged her and ministered to her in her earthly pilgrimage.

May God be honored by the life and memory of Lorraine Jenks.
