Roger M. Hink, 88, River Falls, Wisconsin, formerly of Alexandria, died peacefully Monday February 6, 2012 at The Lutheran Home in River Falls.
Roger was born November 13, 1923 in Parkers Prairie, the son of Walter and Beata (Freudenberg) Hink. He was raised in Parkers Prairie where he attended a country school while helping out on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Adeline Marie Hertwig on January 11, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Miltona. He and his “Sweet Adeline” were blessed with four children.
Of his various jobs in his lifetime, being the handyman at the Alexandria hardware store was his joy. Roger was self-taught and learned by trial and error. He was excellent at troubleshooting, fixing appliances, and later fixing TVs and radios. On weekends, he enjoyed his time as a projectionist for Andria, Sunset and State Theaters.
Roger was a proud, honest, yet humble man who took great pride in providing for his family and living a Christian life. He was very active in his faith as a member of his church’s men’s club and choir. He had a gift of music as he loved to play the guitar and sing as a member of the Vikingland Chordsmen Quartet. Moreover, he loved spending time in his shop, woodworking and scrolling crafts and arts. It gave him the greatest pleasure to give them away.
Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Adeline, of River Falls; children, Sharon (Jim) Hauschild of River Falls, Rick (Janelle) Hink of Vail, Arizona, Randy (Janet) Hink of Buffalo, MN, Sheryl Houchins of Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren, Jeff Schulke, Becky (John) Haydon, Jim (Dawn) Hauschild Jr., Kris (Brooke) Hink, Cory Hink, Zach (Brittney) Hink, Aly Hink, Stephanie (Jay) Mollet, Jacob Houchins; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sophy, Taylor, Miloh and Isabella; sisters, Gladys Dawson of Mounds View, MN, Darlene Shear of Fargo, ND, and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Danielle Houchins; sister, Elvera Brockopp; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Dawson, Alfred Shear and Raymond Brockopp.
Funeral services for Roger were held Saturday, February 11 at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Pastor John Hanson officiating. Burial was at Peace Lutheran Cemetery with his grandsons serving as active casket bearers and his granddaughters as honorary casket bearers.
Funeral services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, Wisconsin.
