Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Lloyd S. Becker, 81, of St. Cloud will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Lloyd passed away from natural causes/Parkinson’s on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Bethany Home in Alexandria. The Rev. Scott Pogatchnik and the Rev. Alfred Stangl will con-celebrate. Burial with military honors will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Lloyd was born July 9, 1930 in Parkers Prairie to the late Hubert and Louise (Roers) Becker. He grew up on a farm near the small town of Urbank and volunteered at the age of 20 to fight in the Korean Conflict. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1954 and he was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, an Army Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations and National Defense Service Medals and a Silver Star in December 1951.
Lloyd married Marilyn Pehan on June 30, 1954 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon. Lloyd was employed for the VA Hospitals in Minneapolis and then St. Cloud for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. He also washed windows for area businesses in St. Cloud during the day and cleaned restaurants at night to support his large family. Lloyd was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish, the St. Cloud Eastside VFW Post #4847 and the Waite Park American Legion #428.
Lloyd seemed to know everyone and never treated anyone as a stranger. He enjoyed warm conversations wherever he went. His second love was hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Brian of San Diego, CA, Lee (Lori) of Stillwater, Bradley (Leanne) of Sauk Rapids, Scott of Minneapolis, Darrell (Joy) of Greendale, WI, Lynnell Barthel of St. Cloud, Nancy Becker of Virginia Beach, VA, Mark (Janell) of Alexandria, Maribeth of Maple Grove; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marvin, Norbert (Kathy), Herbert (Millie) and Lester (Joan).
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn, in 2001; oldest son, Jeffrey, in 1965; sisters, Leona and Thelma; brother, Harvey; and brother-in-law, Jim Klemik.
Lloyd’s family would like to express their gratitude to St. Cloud, Quiet Oaks and St. Croix Hospice Services, along with all who have enriched their lives with their presence. A special thanks to William Clemens for his generosity.
Memorials are preferred.
