Anthony “Tony” Joseph Faust, 80, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Edgewood Vista in Alexandria.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Faust, 80, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Edgewood Vista in Alexandria.

Anthony was born May 28, 1931 in Pierz, the son of William and Theresa (Winkler) Faust. Tony graduated high school from St. John’s Preparatory School and then joined the United States Air Force. He performed maintenance on airplanes and was involved with Operation Ivy during his enlistment. After the service he graduated from the University of Minnesota with an education degree in 1958.

Tony was united in marriage to Helen Hick on September 12, 1957 in St. Cloud. Three children were born to this marriage, Mary, Joseph and Jane. Tony and his family lived in Minneapolis and he taught aviation at Dunwoody College for a number of years. In 1968, Tony and his family moved to Alexandria and he continued teaching aviation electronics at Alexandria Vocational Technical Institute until he retired in 1993.

Tony was a patient and quiet man who loved his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring furniture and radios, and model trains. He loved golfing and traveling with Helen to different state parks around the state. He also enjoyed craft fairs and attending shows through the Alexandria Area Arts Association. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Faust of Alexandria; daughters, Mary (Calvin) Hertel of Sauk Rapids, Jane (Steve) Daffinrud of Sartell; son, Joseph (Lori) Faust of Alexandria; six grandchildren, David Hertel of Fargo, ND, Jeniece (Ken) Vance of Aberdeen, SD, Alyssa Faust of Alexandria, Mikaela Faust of Alexandria, Daniel Daffinrud of Sartell, Nick Daffinrud of Sartell; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Eden, Arica and Kenny; and a brother, Francis Faust of Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Faust; and a sister, Naomi Weber.

A funeral service was held for Tony on Saturday, January 14 at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria with the Rev. Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud.
