Irene was born on January 14, 1919 on the family farm in Brandon Township, the daughter of Hubert and Emma (Kuhn) Roers. She attended country schools and graduated from Brandon High School in 1937. During the summer and following high school she worked at neighboring farm homes helping with cleaning, gardening, cooking and with the children before her marriage to Anthony Daas. The couple was married at Seven Dolors Catholic Church on October 5, 1938.
Tony and Irene farmed from that time in 1938 until their retirement in 1986 when they moved into Millerville. They raised four children on the farm and were active in their community and at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Irene loved to garden and was a terrific cook. She also loved to fish, make wine and play cards. Tony died in 2006.
She is survived by her children, Lucille Nadeau of Little Canada, Richard (Mary Ann) Daas of Osakis, Mary Jo (Jerry Dold) Garay of Hudson, WI, and Norma (Tim) Lanoue of Nelson; grandchildren, Mark Nadeau, Mona Meissner, Therese Meyer, Paul Nadeau, Christopher Nadeau, Jessica Nadeau, Stephani Stracke, Karen Mauriala, Rick Daas, Kari Taplin, Scott Koep, Kelly Koep Naab, Josh Lanoue and Jenny Lanoue; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Philip (Odie) Roers of Alexandria, Walter (Evelyn) Roers of Alexandria, Dennis (Irma) Roers of Fergus Falls; sisters, Genevieve Nagorski of Brainerd and Alice (Mel) Boesen of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Pat Roers of Alexandria and Agnes Daas-Byrne of Millerville; and brother-in-law, Peter Daas of Evansville.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony; grandson, Tony Daas; great-grandson, Eli Meyer; brother, Ralph Roers; sister, Marcine Pischke-Kraemer; and son-in-law, Bernie Nadeau.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, January 11 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville with the Rev. Leroy Scheierl officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery with Mark Nadeau, Paul Nadeau, Christopher Nadeau, Rick Daas, Scott Koep, Larry Meissner, Randy Meyer, Larry Stracke, Phil Mauriala, Rod Naab and Josh Lanoue serving as pallbearers.
