Helena Theresa Schultz, 96, Osakis, entered the peace of Heaven on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011 from Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Helena was born August 2, 1915 in rural Carlos to Albert and Theresa (Schlosser) Ritten. She grew up in Carlos Township and attended country school District #69. On April 25, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ralph Schultz at St. Nicholas Church in Belle River.
She farmed with her husband, west of Osakis, mainly dairy cows and sheep, and retired into Osakis in 1973. Helena worked at the Rec in Osakis and then waitressed at the Farm Court Restaurant. For more than 25 years she worked as a dietary aid and cook at Community Memorial Home in Osakis. Because of her good health she was able to continue working well into her 70s.
Helena was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis and belonged to several church groups. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Christian Mothers Society and the St. Elizabeth Mission group. She was also a daily Mass attendee.
One of Helena’s favorite pastimes was playing cards. She belonged to several different card clubs and knew many kinds of card games. She also was a big Twins fan and liked to watch All Star wrestling. She could do many types of handiwork, including crocheting and knitting.
She was a kind and caring mother and grandma who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Helena is survived by her three children, John Schultz of Oklahoma City, OK, Douglas (Mary Jo) Schultz of Birmingham, AL and Sheila (Keith) Norling of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Hulinsky and Erma Schultz; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ralph; son, Robert; brothers, William, Michael, Louis and Henry Ritten; and a sister, Selma Botzet.
Mass of Resurrection was held for Helena on Thursday, December 29 at Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Fr. David Petron officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis. Honorary pallbearers were members of Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella and the St. Elizabeth Mission groups; LaVaun Schoeck, Joanne Ranum, Jeanne Astleford, Sonya Olson, Hester Benedict, Jack Wysoski, Robert Schluender and Jim Morisette. Active pallbearers were her grandchildren, Christian, Kevin, Michelle, Michael and Jennifer Schultz, Kathleen Howton, Sandra Schultz, Anita and Paul Norling.
