Arlen Ernestine Johnson, 86, Carlos, formerly of Green Valley, entered the peace of heaven on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from her daughter’s home in Carlos.
Arlen was born October 1, 1925 in Lyon County to Thomas and Bertha (Blank) Lindsay. She attended school in Green Valley. She married Earl Anderson and had three children. Arlen lived in Minneapolis, Renville and Pillager and in the early 1960s, moved with her children back to Marshall.
Arlen had worked as a cook at various restaurants and resorts, working up to becoming the head cook for the restaurant at Lumbertown, USA (which was part of Madden’s Resort in Brainerd).
On August 7, 1970 Arlen married Eugene Johnson in Marshall. They managed a dry cleaning business and then purchased their own business in Brookings, SD called Gene’s Dry Cleaners. After Gene’s death, Arlen worked at Agra Pro. In June of 2009, Arlen moved to Carlos. While a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD Arlen served on their funeral lunch committee. Once she moved to Carlos, she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Arlen was a woman of many talents. She was a beautiful seamstress, able to make wedding dresses and do any type of alterations and mending. She also made quilts for both Mt. Calvary and Trinity Lutheran churches. She enjoyed traveling and Bible study. Arlen loved the outdoors and enjoyed mowing lawn and working in her flower garden. She was happiest of all, however, just being with her family and loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
