Darlene Nancy Burgeson, 73, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria after a long illness.
Darlene was born in Minneapolis to Oscar and Nancy (Jacobson) Ytredal on July 23, 1938. She was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1951 and was a lifetime member and a consecrated Christian. She attended the 10-day camp meeting of the SDA church every year of her life and it was the highlight of the year for her.
Darlene attended the Minneapolis Junior Academy, Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, and Campion Academy in Colorado. On June 3, 1956 she was united in marriage to Ted Burgeson. They were blessed with three daughters. Darlene worked as an Avon supervisor for 15 years and as a loving caregiver for her mother and husband.
She enjoyed ice-skating when she was young and always loved to work in her garden. She especially loved her beautiful irises and enjoyed writing short stories; having many of them published. Her family was more important to her than anything else. Even though she was ill, she would go to almost all of the school programs that her great-grandchildren in grades 7 and 8 were a part of in Hutchinson. She loved to travel to see her many friends when she was able. Darlene never thought of herself, always living her entire life to love and serve others. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Ted; three daughters, Sandra (David) Downing of Omaha, NE, Heidi (Craig) Hardel of Hutchinson, and Tammera Hewitt of Alexandria; two grandsons, Clint Downing of New York and Luke Downing of Virginia; one granddaughter, Andrea (Lance) Norsworthy of Alexandria; two great-grandchildren, Lexis and Payton Norsworthy; brother, Duane (Carolyn) Ytredal of North Oaks; sister, Lorna (Ronald) Thompson of Hutchinson; niece, Nancy Thompson of Hutchinson, nephew, Michael (Molly) Thompson of Richfield; grand-niece, Lucy Thompson; grand-nephew, Asher Spilane-Thompson; along with many cousins and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, December 4 at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria with Pastor Wayne Morrison officiating. Kim Byrne provided the music.
Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers were Luke Downing, David Downing, Michael Thompson, Clint Downing, Craig Hardel and Lance Norsworthy.
