It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Marie (Geris) Thornton announces her passing after an extended and courageous battle with cancer.
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Marie (Geris) Thornton announces her passing after an extended and courageous battle with cancer.
Joan passed away November 23, 2011 at the Kavanagh House Hospice at the age of 75.
Joan was born July 20, 1936 in Alexandria, the third child of Jack and Edith Geris. She grew up in Carlos and attended Alexandria High School. She married Romaine Thornton and had a son, Tom Thornton.
In her younger years she enjoyed playing golf and bowling. She lived in Brooklyn Center and later moved to Des Moines, Iowa.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her son, Tom, his wife, Randi of Lake City, and her granddaughters, Taylor, Makenzie and Nicole. Joan will also be fondly remembered by her brothers, Joe Geris of White Bear Lake and Tom Geris of Shawnee, KS, as well as her nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be announced at a later date and will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River.
