Jerome “Jerry” Clifford Hoaglund was born April 27, 1950, in Breckenridge, the son of Clifford and Anna (Carpenter) Hoaglund. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria in 1968.
Jerome “Jerry” Clifford Hoaglund was born April 27, 1950, in Breckenridge, the son of Clifford and Anna (Carpenter) Hoaglund. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria in 1968. He was united in marriage to Sharon Myren on November 17, 1969 in Sisseton, South Dakota.
Jerry worked for Herzog Roofing and Buttweilers Do-All. In 1992 he began working for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as jailer/dispatcher and then became Sentence to Serve supervisor. After being employed there 16 years, Jerry retired in 2007. He was currently employed at Walmart in Alexandria.
Jerry was an active member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, having served as Region 7 director. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He also served as president of Alexandria Eagles and as captain of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse. He was a member of AA and very proud of 26 years of sobriety.
Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing and making fishing lures, watching movies and reading. But most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon; four children, Lynda (Kris) Blom of Brandon, Michael “Mike” Hoaglund of Fargo, ND, Lori (Jeff) Johnson of Lake Park, and Mark (Jessica Hamacher) Hoaglund of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) Blakesley of Carlos, Ashley Hoaglund (Jordan Patrick) of Sauk Rapids, Anthony and Brittney Blom of Brandon, and Taylor and Kody Johnson of Lake Park; two stepgrandchildren, KayLee and Remington Hamacher of Alexandria; three great-grandchildren, Kayden and Mariya Blakesley, and Chloe Patrick; five sisters Ellen Niblett of Wheaton, Gloria Schuneman of Alexandria, Dianne (Jack) Fletcher of Warsaw, MO, Connie (Al) Harper of Brooklyn, MI, and Arlene (Rod) Lorenz of Alexandria; mother-in-law, Shirley Myren of Miltona; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Anna Hoaglund; sister, Lynette Hoaglund; father-in-law, Wilhelm “Willie” Myren; two brothers-in-law, George Niblett and Richard Schuneman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Miltona with the Rev. Kari van Wakeren officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Kevin Lee.
Burial will take place at Spruce Hill Lutheran Cemetery, Spruce Hill Township. Active pallbearers are Jackie Notch, Greg “Beef” Johnson, Rod Lorenz, Don Myren, Ron Myren, Ed Niblett, Greg Niblett, Ted Niblett and Scott Schuneman.
Honorary pallbearers are Amber, Ashley, Anthony, Brittney, Taylor, Kody, Kayden, Mariya, Chloe, KayLee and Remington.
