Maurice was born September 1, 1926 near Nelson, the son of Louis and Ruth (Sargeant) Faehnrich. He was the last of 12 children to be born to this family. He attended country school and helped his dad on the farm. Morrie enlisted into the United States Army and served overseas in the Philippines and Korea from 1945 to 1947.

During his involvement in the Lions he started more than 500 clubs. He held many positions and volunteered many hours of his time to the Golden Brothers and the Forada Lions Club. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Award, the Hall of Fame Award, and many other awards for his dedication and service to Lions.
