Virginia Helen Fluegge, age 94 of Willmar, formerly of Alexandria, passed away early Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Willmar Care Center in Willmar.
Virginia Helen Fluegge, age 94 of Willmar, formerly of Alexandria, passed away early Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Willmar Care Center in Willmar.
Virginia was born February 19, 1917 in Bernadotte Township, near Winthrop, to Edwin and Hilder (Gustafson) Ross. After her schooling, Virginia attended the University of Minnesota Ag School in St. Paul.
She was married on March 16, 1939 to Arnold Fluegge at Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Sibley County. They farmed in Lafayette and in 1956 moved to a farm near Osakis. After retirement, the Fluegges moved to a small farm north of Long Prairie for eight years before settling in Alexandria. Virginia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria and also belonged to the Alexandria Garden Club.
Flower gardening was one of Virginia’s favorite hobbies. She grew many beautiful flowers each season and often entered her best ones in the county fair. Virginia also enjoyed doing rug weaving during the winter months.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Mavis) Fluegge of Isanti and Don (Faye) Fluegge of Willmar; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Zelda Fluegge of Brainerd; three sisters, Garnett (Harvey) Stolt of Duluth, Audrey Amundson of Starbuck, and Darlene Klause of New Mexico; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Darell Fluegge; a great-grandson, Ryan Orsburne; and two brothers, Garfield and Lowell Ross.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis with the Rev. Terry Finnern officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Mound Cemetery in Carlos.
