Julie Ann Koubsky, 50, became ill and died July 27, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul.
Julie was born December 20, 1960 in Ames, Iowa to Ralph and Marge (Seim) Losee. She attended school in Iowa and Illinois, graduating from Hoffman High School in Illinois and attended and graduated from a junior college in Palatine, Illinois, becoming a registered nurse. Her parents, Ralph and Marge, retired to Lake Carlos. Julie Ann eventually moved to Alexandria to be closer to her parents and became employed at the Good Samaritan Home in Hoffman for three years. She met Shawn after buying a house a block away from his home. They were married on March 1, 2003 in Las Vegas. The couple returned every year to Las Vegas to celebrate their anniversary.
Julie’s life was filled with love and kindness. One of the first jobs she had was making beautiful wedding cakes. She loved making couples the cake of their dreams. Julie became a registered nurse eventually because of her desire to help people. She was employed at the Hoffman nursing home for three years and for the past nine years she had been employed at the Minnewaska Lutheran Nursing Home in Starbuck. Julie’s compassion for the residents and fellow employees was exceptional. Every year, she created gingerbread sculptures and displays of replicas of the nursing home and Douglas Machine, as a couple of examples, for the holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Shawn, of Lowry; parents, Ralph and Marge Losee of Alexandria; brother, Mark Losee (Paula) of Eagan; father- and mother-in-law, Jim and Connie Koubsky of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Troy Koubsky of Brooklyn Center; nephews, Brad Losee and Ryan Koubsky; and niece, Rachel Koubsky.
Funeral services for Julie were held Monday, August 1 at St. Johns Nepomuk Catholic Church in Rural Lowry with the Rev. Roger Thoennes officiating. Ann Zavadil provided the music and soloist was Dolly Miller. Brad Losee, Ryan Koubsky, Rachel Koubsky, Jay Townsend, Mark Losee and Troy Koubsky served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the staff members of the Minnewaska Nursing Home in Starbuck. Interment was at the church cemetery.
