She spent her youth helping on the farm, being a part of 4H, involved with the local Lutheran church and surrounded by her brothers David and Richard Frykman.

She graduated from Evansville High School in 1960 and then Gustavus Adolphus College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1964. She joined the United States Peace Corps in 1966 and went to Chile to inoculate the rural population against small pox.

There she met her first husband, Fernando Rees, currently of Los Angeles, California, and returned to the United States in 1968. They lived outside of Los Angeles and raised two children, Lorena Caulfield and Jeremiah Rees.

Upon returning from Chile she completed her master’s degree in nursing at UCLA. Over the course of 20 years she worked as a nursing supervisor at several hospitals including Cedar’s Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Anaheim Memorial Hospital, St Vincent’s Medical Center and Barlow Community Hospital.

At her 25th college reunion she met Ed Lamp and they married in August of 1990. They built a home in Elmore, Ohio and became very active at Grace Lutheran Church. Over the next 20 years, she worked at several hospitals including Fostoria Community Hospital, Mercy Hospital in Toledo and as a consultant for Joint Commission Resources.

Their love for travel entertained them with purchases of a sailing boat, cabin on Bois Blanc Island in Michigan, and several trips in the United States and around the world. They were able to go on a safari in Africa, on the Orient Express from Beijing, China to St Petersburg, Russia, and even spent a New Year’s Eve in Antarctica.

Neta and Ed were blessed to have 12 grandchildren from their combined family of four children. Ed preceded her in death on October 10, 2010 after a six-month battle with ALS. Neta passed away peacefully on June 15, 2011 in Newbury Park, California after a 15-month battle with cancer.
