Ardyce Erickson, 80, of rural Barrett, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Ardyce Erickson, 80, of rural Barrett, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Ardyce was born September 22, 1930 in Alexandria to Olander and Evelyn (Stevenson) Olson, was baptized and confirmed, and attended Wennersborg Lutheran Church in rural Kensington. The family later joined the Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Following graduation from Hoffman High School in 1948, she attended beauty college in Minneapolis.

On March 10, 1951, Ardyce was united in marriage to Russell Harold Erickson. The couple lived briefly with Russell’s parents before purchasing and moving to their farm in Elk Lake Township. In addition to the daily tasks of keeping a home and raising eight children, Ardyce was also a full partner on the farm and worked alongside Russell where needed.

Ardyce spent countless hours baking and canning for her family, caring for the garden and its’ produce, and especially liked her flower gardens. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, doing various crafts, watching the birds, and going to the Dew Drop Inn for lunch. Ardyce enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren, and the many trips with them to the Minnesota State Fair. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett. Russell passed away on December 18, 2000.

Survivors include her children, Nancy (Marv) Simar of Barrett, Peggy (Bill) Pasche of Hoffman, Dale of Barrett, Connie (Steve) Anderson of Morris, Susan (Dale) Murray of Alexandria, Darryl (Carol) of Kensington, Janice (Troy) Reinking of Ireton, Iowa, and Dean of Barrett; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (LaVerne) Olson of Hoffman and Rodger (Elaine) Olson of Prior Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olander and Evelyn Olson; her husband, Russell; granddaughter, Jill Pasche; and one brother, James Olson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 29 at Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett with the Rev. Matthew Rose officiating. Burial was at Wennersborg Cemetery in Kensington.
