Verd Thomas Anez, 46, passed away on January 31, 2011 at his home near Little Falls, from a tragic accident.

Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, February 5 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls. Burial was at the parish cemetery.

Verd was born July 15, 1964 in Stillwater to Bud and Cindy Anez. He graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 1983 and went on to obtain a dairy science degree from Hutchinson Vo-Tech. Verd was united in marriage to Karen Radziej on June 4, 1988 and together they raised seven healthy children.

Verd’s love for his family always came first and he made many sacrifices to put his children’s needs first in his life. He encouraged his children to be the best they could be, by setting an excellent example of how to live a Christian life.

Since the Hockey Exchange Arena opened in 1989, Verd has been a youth hockey coach. He coached all levels and many players in his 21 years of service to his community. He was also the assistant coach for the Alexandria High School Girls’ Hockey team while his daughter, Michelle, attended school there. He was well-respected and much loved by both players and parents alike, and provided his players with skills beyond the game of hockey; skills to use for life.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Karen; and children, Matthew, Michelle, Mike, Mark, Mack, Melissa and Marshall; parents, Bud and Cindy Anez; mother-in-law, Doris Radziej; brothers and sisters, Vince (Lisa), Renee (Todd) Maciej, Doug (Kelly), Jared (Kami), Paul (Missy), Janee, Yvette, Joy (Jay) Erwin, and Tom (Emily) Anez; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mary (Earl) Fuechtmann, Randy Radziej, Patty (Pete) Becker, David (Kathy) Radziej, Linda (Val) Pilarski, and Jane (Keith) Kotsmith; as well as 45 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jack Radziej.

Arrangements are with Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service of Little Falls; (320) 632-4393.
