Mary Lou Collins Olson, 80, Glenwood, formerly of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Glenwood Retirement Village.
Mary was born July 17, 1930 in Fargo, North Dakota to Ray and Viola (Boss) Heisler. She grew up and attended school in the Fargo area.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Collins in Fargo. The couple raised their three daughters and two sons in the Fargo area. Mary and Tom enjoyed ballroom dancing; one of their favorites was the jitterbug. Mary returned to school after her children began school and became the bookkeeper at Anthony’s in Moorhead. After leaving Anthony’s she began working in medical records; first at The Neuropsychiatry Institute and later at Orthopaedic Associates in Fargo.
In 1976, she was united in marriage to Maury Olson. Mary and Maury enjoyed playing cards with Mary’s father, sister and her husband, Patty and Larry. In 2000, Mary moved to the Alexandria area to work as secretary for Key Ministries. She was a great asset and enjoyed many mission trips with the ministry. During this time she enjoyed attending sporting events for her grandchildren. She was a true fan.
In her younger years, Mary enjoyed roller skating. She lit up every room she walked into and had a way of making everyone laugh. She will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by her sons, Tom Collins of Alexandria and Timothy (Barb) Collins of Grand Forks, ND; daughters, Deborah Holte of Glenwood, Cindy (Randy) Selstedt of Walcott, ND, and Terri (Dave) Tyryfter of Oak Creek, WI; 12 grandsons; seven granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathy (Larry) Keller of Washburn, ND; brother, Verne Heisler of Spring Valley, CA, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Haglund; brothers, Jack and Jerry Heisler; and husbands, Thomas Collins and Maury Olson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8 at All Saint’s Chapel in Glenwood Retirement Village with Pastor Peter Reishus officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, ND.
