Melvin was born June 1, 1933 in Alexandria to Walter and Ethel (Carlson) Lund, and raised by his father and stepmother. After high school he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He married Bernice Ziegelman on May 24, 1958 in Garfield.

Melvin spent his working years in sales and as a small business owner. He was a member of the LCMS since marriage and a lifelong member of the American Legion. He was a devoted Christian, who cherished time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; one daughter, Terri (Michael) Lichtie of La Crosse; two sons, Todd (Tammy Sobania) Lund of Blaine, and Troy (Patricia) Lund of Hastings; three grandchildren, Trevor (Heidi) Lund, Jessica Lichtie and Rebecca Lichtie and one stepgrandson, Jeremy Lichtie; four sisters, Grace Heinrich of St. Paul, Corrinne (Harry) Kruize of Donnelly, Jean (Charles) Essala of Brandon, and Helen (Ralph) Townsend of Garfield; three brothers, John (Karen) Lund of Brandon, Wayne Lund of Brandon and Chester Lund of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edsel; and his stepmother, Josie.

Memorial services will be held Friday, November 12 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Onalaska. The Rev. Donald Stein will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Onalaska City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Friday, November 12 from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be sent to www.schumacher-kish.com.
