Myrtle Anna Luella (Stark) Schultz, 90, of Rainbow Senior Living, a longtime Power, Montana resident and farm homemaker who was active in her community, died of natural causes October 18, 2010 at a local care facility.
Myrtle was born October 2, 1920 in Ida Township. She was raised on the Emmadale Farm in Garfield, graduating from 8th grade at a parochial school in Garfield. She later worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Alexandria.
She married William Schultz at her family home on November 25, 1948. In 1954, they moved to Power, Montana, where they farmed and she was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and LWML of Zion. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 62 years and enjoyed many community activities in Power, including the Friendly Neighbors Club.
Myrtle took pride in her garden and flowers, and enjoyed the mountains and traveling. She loved living in the country and being part of the Power community. After her husband’s death, she continued to live in Power until 2006, when she moved to Great Falls.
Survivors include daughters, Carol (Miles) Quern of Oslo, Minn., Jean (George) Maier of Helena, Mont., Joan (Lyle) Sivumaki of Great Falls, Mont., Susan (Leon) Freeman of Fairfield, Mont., and Donna (Todd) Hertz of Billings, Mont.; sister, Leila (Harlan) Froemming of Alexandria; brothers, Norman (Iris) Stark of Garfield, and Darrel (Rita) Stark of Manassas, VA; 14 grandchildren, U.S. Army Lt. Col William (Debra) Kinsey of Barstow, Calif. Sara Kinsey and Rachel Quern of Ramsey, Minn., Robert Quern of Plymouth, Minn., Jenni (Dan) Wilmot of Helena, Mont., Melanie Maier of Moose, Wyo., Josh Schule of Missoula, Mont., Ben (Alyson) Freeman of Pocatello, Idaho, Amanda Freeman of Great Falls, Mont., Jessie Freeman of Missoula, Mont., U.S. Navy LTjg Matt Hertz of Virginia Beach, VA, Rachel (Toby) Laird of Flagstaff, AZ, and Patrick Hertz and Katie Hertz of Billings, Mont; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Rogers of Helena, Mont., Travis Rogers of Old Bridge, NJ, Kolter Wilmot and Daltyne Wilmot of Great Falls, Mont., Dakota Wilmot of Helena, Mont. and Jacob Laird of Flagstaff, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schultz, on June 24, 2002; her parents, August and Emma Stark; and brothers, Clarence, Ray and Donald.
Funeral services were held October 23 at Zion Lutheran Church in Power. Burial was at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield, Montana.
