John “Jack” Anderson, 87, Parkers Prairie, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
John “Jack” Anderson, 87, Parkers Prairie, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
John was born April 27, 1923, to Alfred T. and Mildred B. (Hadley) Anderson in Parkers Prairie. He was confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1943.
Following his education, Jack entered the U.S. Army on June 16, 1943, serving in the infantry in the South Pacific for 26 months. Following his honorable discharge in January of 1946, Jack returned to Parkers Prairie.
He was united in marriage to LouAnn Hemquist on August 24, 1948 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He worked for the U.S. Mail Service as a rural mail carrier for 19 years and as a postal clerk for 11 years, retiring in October of 1979. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the board for several years and as head funeral usher. He was a member of the Parkers Prairie American Legion Post #219, holding many offices and was treasurer of the Parkers Food Shelf for many years. Jack loved his family and appreciated time spent with his kids, grandkids and great-grandson. He enjoyed watching the many sports events at PPHS and the Minnesota Twins.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, LouAnn; son, Gary “Andy” (Kathy) Anderson of Parkers Prairie; two daughters, Judith (Larry) Lahman of Parkers Prairie and Lori (James) Bruggers of Litchfield; brother, Robert (Colleen) Anderson of Fargo; sister, Roberta Barrows of Parkers Prairie; eight grandchildren, David (Jill) Lahman, Ryan Lahman, Amy Lahman, Nathan Lahman, Heather (Matthew) Oachs, Amber Anderson, Jenna (Nathan) Kromann and Jesse Rick; a great-grandson, Nicholas Lahman; along with nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ted (Eleinore) Anderson; sister, Peggy (Roger) Knutson; and brother-in-law, Roy “Buster” Barrows.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Jonathan Sorum officiating. Music will be provided by organist Julie Lindgren and vocalist Heather Oachs. Burial will take place at Swedish Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #219.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and members of the American Legion Post #219.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
