Diane Marie Bergquist, 66, Parkers Prairie, died as a result of a car accident north of Parkers Prairie on Monday, June 21, 2010.

Diane was born June 16, 1944 to Leo and Audrey (Haechrel) Baumann in Springfield. She was raised in Springfield, attended parochial and public schools and graduated in 1962. She attended college in Minneapolis where she received a degree in X-ray and lab tech. She worked at the Parkers Prairie Hospital from the time it opened until the time it closed and she then worked in Browerville. Diane worked in her profession of helping people for more than 33 years.

She was united in marriage to Richard K. Bergquist on April 24, 1965 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. Following their marriage they lived north of Parkers Prairie on a dairy farm where they resided until the present. Diane was known as the “Asparagus Lady” for her garden. She was a gifted and hard worker and made and decorated many cakes for others. She enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, traveling with her husband, cooking and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, its choir, prayer chain and decorating committee.

She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick”; daughter, Christine (Stan Jr.) Kegel of Apple Valley; son, Dirk (Andrea) Bergquist of Alexandria; five sisters, Jeanette (Michael) Roy of Eldersberg, Maryland, Mary (Orville) Knott of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Bev (Chris) Heisler of Mountain Home, Idaho, Rita Baumann of Wyoming and Julie (Doug) Houston of Iowa Falls, Iowa; brother, Dennis (Karen) Baumann of Springfield; three grandchildren, Chantell Bergquist, Levi Bergquist and Callista Bergquist; her in-laws, who were very special to her, Denny (Flo) Bergquist,  Elaine (Harvey) May and Jenny Welch; along with many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kenneth and Elizabeth Bergquist; sister-in-law, Jeanne Bergquist and brother-in-law, Roger Welch.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 25 at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Music was provided by organist, Maureen Roloff and the church choir. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bernie Meyer, Roman Koep, Joe Hellerman, Dave Eggert, Dennis Klimek, Jim Arvidson, Ken Noe and Frank Linn. Honorary pallbearers were Bill and Marcy Stone, Christian Mothers, and her grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Lind Family Funeral & Cremation Service with chapels in Miltona and Parkers Prairie, www.llindfamilyfh.com.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Diane's family. Bob and I got to know this wonderful lady while he was a substitute organist at St. Williams. She will be greatly missed.
