Funeral services were held for Naomi Jean Thomas of Alexandria, the daughter of Pastor Don and Vi Salo of New York Mills, on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Carl Lamppa officiating.

The pallbearers were Daniel Salo, Timothy Salo, Joseph Salo, Benjamin Salo, Ardell “Mort” Mortenson and Thomas Tumberg. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Louise Amberg. Naomi was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in New York Mills.

Naomi was born November 8, 1969 in Virginia, Minnesota to Pastor Donald Benhart and Viola “Vi” Mae (Thompson) Salo. Naomi grew up and attended school in Tower and Soudan. On November 14, 1986 Naomi was married to Kent Seppala in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. Their marriage was blessed with four children. In 2000, Naomi made her home in the Alexandria, Minnesota area.

On May 22, 2004 Naomi was united in marriage with John “JT” Robert Thomas in Alexandria. Naomi and JT made their home in Alexandria, where Naomi owned and operated a cleaning business and was employed at First State Bank. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, interior decorating and making her family and friends laugh.

On June 19, 2010 Naomi passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at home in Alexandria with the care of Hospice of Douglas County. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Naomi is survived by her husband, John “JT” Thomas of Alexandria; parents, Pastor Donald and Vi Salo of New York Mills; daughters, Rachel Seppala and Alyssa Seppala of Alexandria; sons, Cody Seppala of Alexandria and Joseph Seppala of Ashby, Massachusetts; step-daughters, Miranda Thomas and Sophie Thomas of Alexandria; sisters, Mary Lou (Ardell “Mort”) Mortenson of International Falls and Julie (Thomas) Tumberg of New York Mills; brothers, Daniel (Wendy) Salo of Watkins, Timothy (Gerry) Salo of Ramsay, Joseph (Karen) of Alexandria, Benjamin Salo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and a host of friends.
