Deanna Thompson Sahs passed away on December 23, 2009 at the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wisconsin after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born May 8, 1934 in Duluth to Myrtle Lee and James Thompson. The family moved to Alexandria when Deanna was in the 5th grade and her mother began teaching special education in the Alexandria public schools.
After graduating with honors from Alexandria Central High School in 1952, she attended St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1956 with a degree in English. Deanna moved to Skokie, Illinois, near Chicago, where she taught English. It was here she met and married the Reverend Delno Sahs in 1958.
After raising her family and teaching many years in Crystal Lake, Illinois, Deanna retired from teaching in 1994. She then spent her time between northern Wisconsin and southern Florida.
Deanna always spoke fondly of her happy times growing up in Alexandria and of how much she enjoyed her high school reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and is survived by her son, James and daughter, Kirsten of Chicago, and four grandchildren.

To Deanna's children and her friends, we were saddened to follow Deanna's illness and so sorry to hear how she suffered. We so enjoyed seeing her at reunions and only wish time had permitted longer visits. We were close friends from 5th grade on and have so very many wonderful memories of growing up together in Alex. Our sympathy to you all in your loss. Phyllis and Loren Erickson, Maple Grove, MN04/30/2010 11:03 AM
