Alfa was born September 20, 1922, the second of four daughters to Adolf A. and Maria W. (Uhde) Lenz in Parkers Prairie. She was baptized October 15, 1922 and confirmed June 27, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She grew up in Parkers Prairie and attended Parkers Prairie Public School. Later, Alfa moved to St. Paul, where she was employed for some time as a nanny.
She was united in marriage to Ervin Lind on October 30, 1942 in Henning. Following their marriage the first few years they made their home in various towns in the surrounding area. They later moved to California during World War II, where she was employed in a U.S. defense plant. Upon returning to Minnesota they made their home in Parkers Prairie where she was employed at the Parkers Prairie Creamery for a number of years.
Alfa loved being a homemaker and mom to her children. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, flower beds and especially fishing. She also enjoyed crafts, her specialty was scrap booking for her children and grandchildren. Alfa and her husband, Ervin, had a great passion for dancing, sometimes several times a week, with old and new friends. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Alfa is survived by three daughters, Sandi (James) Dittberner of Leaf Valley, Ellen (LeRoy) Heyda of New Prague and Jo Ann (Dennis) Stende of Parkers Prairie; five grandsons, Troy Dittberner, Chris Heyda, Troy Bettin, Monty Bettin and Jesse Stende; six granddaughters, Darcy Wussow, Kim Heyda, Dee Dee Lind, Joy Davis, Melody Adams and Beth Koep; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; sister, Doris Nelson of St. Louis Park; son-in-law, Frank Bettin of Parkers Prairie; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin, on March 1, 2001; son, Ernest, on January 23, 1969; daughter, Arlene Bettin, on December 12, 2009; and two sisters, Agnes Nelson and Eleanora Vitek.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music was provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich.
Burial was at Parkers Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Troy Dittberner, Troy Bettin, Chris Heyda, Monty Bettin, Jesse Stende and Kip Nelson.
