Hazel Hermanson, 86

Hazel Hermanson 86, Brandon, died March 12, 2010 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.

Hazel Hermanson 86, Brandon, died March 12, 2010 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. She was surrounded by her family.

Hazel was born August 8, 1923 in Brandon to George and Jenny (Belgard) Thompson. She attended school in Brandon and graduated from Alexandria High School.

On August 17, 1941 Hazel was united in marriage to Les Hermanson at St Petri Lutheran Church in rural Brandon. They shared 67 years of marriage before Les died in December 2008.

Hazel was employed at Richard Dahl’s grocery store in Brandon and later at Ostlund’s Hardware Store and Brandon Communications, as administrative and secretarial assistant.

After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Douglas County Hospital. She was active in her community and was instrumental in starting the Brandon Garden Club. She enjoyed beautifying the streets in Brandon with her pots of flowers.

She had a gift of growing flowers, especially roses and sharing her creative arrangements with friends, family and her church. It would “make her day” to have someone stop by and have a fresh cup of coffee and homemade cookies. Most important to Hazel was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a special friend, her dog, “Benji Boy.” Hazel and Les traveled throughout the U.S. with close friends, and in 1998 she realized her dream trip with Les to Hawaii.

Hazel was a lifelong member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, married and was buried on March 18, 2010.

She was active, serving the Lord as church historian, counsel member, keeping cemetery records, member of St. Petri Women of Word, Via de Christo, and helping plan church events.

Hazel is survived by her son, Doug Hermanson and wife, Yvonne, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Randy (Janice) Hermanson, Reed Hermanson, Michael (Sara) Hermanson and Karri Hermanson; great-grandchildren, Jerid, Caitlin, Miah, William and Nathan Hermanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Roger Hermanson; brothers, Wilton, Orean and Floyd Thompson; sisters, Glefern Holverson, Berdell Ellingson and Eloise Anderson.

A funeral service was held March 18 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Urness Township with the Rev. David Gran officiating. Audrey Aga played the organ and Dennis Thompson was the soloist. Interment was at the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael Hermanson, Reed Hermanson, Gary Anderson, Dale Anderson, Darrell Hermanson and Larry Hermanson. Honorary casket bearers were Randy R. Hermanson and David Thompson.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net.
