Iyron Jeffrey McCord, 52, Garfield, died suddenly December 5, 2009 of a heart attack.

Iyron was born August 14, 1957 to Willmer and Gayle (Berglund) McCord. He was a long time resident of rural Garfield and was very proud to be able to live on the family’s century-old farm. For several years, Iyron and his sister, Sharon, took care of their mom on the farm and continued to care for her until she moved into the nursing home.

During the 1980s, Iyron worked for Juettner Motors as an auto body man, and also as a tow truck driver for Viking Towing. He then worked independently as an auto body and paint detailer for several years. He enjoyed working on cars, especially the classic cars. He was very meticulous about his work.

His most recent job was at Jo-Jo’s Café in Garfield, where he enjoyed visiting with all the customers and being with his co-workers. Iyron also enjoyed mowing lawns and would help others with their yard work. He took pride in all that he did. He also had a love for animals and had several pets.

Iyron was a very special person with a very big heart and for the ones who knew him, he will be sadly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Aja (Rick) Mayer; grandson, Carter Mayer; sister, Sharon (Mike) Goodwin; and special friend and roommate, Laurie Fiala.

Iyron was preceded in death by his parents, Willmer McCord and Gayle McCord; and twin sisters.

A funeral service was held December 11 from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield with the Rev. David Gran officiating. Audrey Aga provided the music. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Lukes, Dan Diedrich, Dave Dorman, Dennis Wesen, Carl Pipo and Guy Ebel. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Hansen, Arnie Simonson, Dale Searcy, Eddy Quinn, Laurie Fiala, Joanne Reger, Amy Woida, Missy Hanson, Barb Slavik and Courtney Reger.

Iyron was a great guy with lots of life. I remember him as a tow truck driver for viking towing and as a regular at the old "SKELLY" restaurant. He had a big heart and was accepting of everyone. He always had time to chat and shoot the breeze. I was so sorry to hear he has passed away at such a young age. My condolences to his family and friends......Mary Feigum
