David was born December 4, 1949 in Morris to Julius McDonald and Lillian Bernice (Waller) Heinrich. He was baptized and confirmed at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in rural Donnelly. Dave graduated from Morris High School in 1967. On November 29, 1968 Dave enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for six years.
After he finished basic training, Dave married Sharon Larson on August 23, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wendell. They moved to Minneapolis where Dave worked at Sears Roebuck and Company for 12 years. During their years in Minneapolis, Dave and Sharon were blessed with two children, Jason, born in 1971 and Amie, born in 1975. The family moved to Alexandria in 1978 and Dave went to work for Lampert Building Center. In 1992, Dave started working as the custodian (or maintenance engineer as Dave would say) at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, where he has worked the past 17 years.
Dave was a member of the Alexandria Eagles, Sons of Norway, Viking Sportsmen, Pheasants Forever, Minnesota Deer Hunting Association, and First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, camping, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sharon of Alexandria; son, Jason (Karisa) Heinrich of Ashby; daughter, Amie (Billy) Wollin of New Prague; grandchildren, Ganon and Anissa Heinrich, Taylor Schultz and Rylee Wollin; mother, Lillian Heinrich of Donnelly; mother-in-law, G. Irene Larson of Alexandria; brother, Scott (Beth) Heinrich of Morris; sister, Karen Anderson of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Richard (Bonnie) Larson of Woodbury; many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his father, Julius Heinrich and father-in-law, Alfred Larson.
A memorial service was held November 19 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverends John Peshek, Greg Billberg and Sherry Billberg officiating. Music was provided by organist, Randy Morken and soloists, Patrick Kalina and Paula Odland. Military honors were provided by Alexandria American Legion Post 87 and VFW Post 936. Inurnment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Wendell. Honorary urn bearers were Michael Corkill-Bomgaars, Harold Kittelson, Roy Wicken, Steven Boushley, Rick Knutson and Gordy Swanson.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund, Bus or Radio Ministry.
