Delores Kalina, 82

Delores “Dorsey” Karlyn Kalina, 82, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Delores “Dorsey” Karlyn Kalina, 82, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Delores was born January 28, 1927 on a farm in Lake Mary Township to Frank and Lillian (Zavadil) Rajdl. At the loss of her mother at the age of 2, Dorsey went to live with her relatives. She attended eight years of country school District #19 in Lake Mary Township and helped on the farm.

Dorsey was united in marriage to John W. Kalina on October 29, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church because of the rebuilding of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church after a fire. Three children were born to this union, Diane, Debra and David. They lived on John’s family farm until 1950 when Dorsey and John purchased the Frank Benesh dairy farm.

Dorsey was a homemaker and helped out on the farm milking cows, doing chores and bringing out wonderful lunches to the field hands. Dorsey and John purchased an Alexandria Tech School house and moved it to the north side of his farm in 1984.

Dorsey was the “energizer bunny” of the family. She helped raise a nephew, took care of her father-in-law, father and stepmother, brother, and babysat her grandchildren. She was always busy cooking, baking kolaches, helping on the farm and doing yard work. Falling leaves messing up her clean yard drove her nuts! She grew beautiful flower gardens, always decorated for the holidays, and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the Lowry American Legion Auxiliary Post# 253 and the Heartland Polka Club. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1976 and she survived her most recent diagnosis of multiple myloma by 12 years. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Kalina of Alexandria; daughters, Diane (Donovan) Trousil of Alexandria, Debra Tvrdik of Alexandria; son, David (Valerie) Kalina of Alexandria; grandchildren, Corey Trousil of Alexandria, LeeAnn Hymore of Alexandria, Katie Tvrdik of Alexandria, Adam Tvrdik of Alexandria, Charity Kalina of Blaine, Chad Kalina of Alexandria, Chris Kalina of Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Lexie and Sarah Trousil, both of Alexandria; sister, Betty (Ed) Bearse of Anoka; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herman, Leon and Kenneth Rajdl; sisters, Kathleen Rajdl and Lavone Zastrow; and stepmother, Lena Rajdl.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday, November 14 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lake Reno Township with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Ann Zavadil was organist and Cassie Wiesner was soloist. Interment was at the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Corey Trousil, LeeAnn Hymore, Chad Kalina, Chris Kalina, Charity Kalina, Adam Tvrdik, and Katie Tvrdik. Honorary casket bearers were Eugene Thomas, Dennis Rajdl and Linda Kolodziej.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net.
