Marie was born July 30, 1925 in Reno Township, Pope County, to John F. and Anna (Benesh) Kalina. She attended country school at Douglas County School District #19.
She met her future husband, Donald Dvorsak, and enjoyed going to barn dances where he played in the Harvey Rajdl Band. On November 5, 1946, Donald and Marie were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. The couple started farming on the Dvorsak family farm and continued there until they moved to Alexandria in April 2009.
Marie was a devoted wife and helpful mother. She taught all her kids to farm and loved to bake, garden, crochet and quilt. She always seemed to be more concerned with others than herself. Marie was a lifetime member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and served on their mission committee for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Dvorsak of Alexandria; daughters, Dorothy (Larry) Holder of Eagle Bend, Judy Dvorsak of Alexandria, Lonnie (Dave Kludt) Hanson of Alexandria, Patty (Jerry Nelson) Larson of Alexandria; grandchildren, Bonnie, Trisha, Joshua, Jordan, Jenna, Anthony, Jessica, Dylan, Marty, Kris, Aron and Kimberly; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, John Kalina and sister, Dorreen Chermak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marie was held Thursday, November 12 at Church of St. John Nepomuk in Reno Township with the Rev. Roger Thoennes officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery with Bonnie Holder, Trisha Christensen, Joshua Hanson, Jordan Hanson, Jenna Hanson, Anthony Larson, Jessica Larson and Dylan Nelson serving as pallbearers.
