Luella Rudell went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 15, 2009. Her last night here on earth was surrounded by all of her “Angels” at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She will be welcomed to her heavenly home by her beloved husband, Leonard; her parents, John and Amanda Strom; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Oliver Erie; daughter, June Bertrand; and grandson, Danny Olson.
Edith Luella was born March 28, 1909 to John and Amanda Strom. She was baptized and confirmed in Wennersborg Lutheran Church. She completed eight years of school in District 71 Solem Township. On April 2, 1928, Luella was married to Leonard Rudell. After their marriage the couple made their home at the Long Acre Farm on Lobster Lake. They also resided at farms near Hoffman and Farwell.
Luella was a caretaker and cook at Knute Nelson Memorial Home for several years and later provided care for mentally challenged men at the Arnie Lee Home. Later the Rudells bought a hobby farm near Lake Miltona and from there moved to Alexandria where Luella continued to work at Knute Nelson. In 2001, Luella became a resident at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Hoffman.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Joanne and Donald Olson of rural Farwell; son-in-law, Dick Bertrand of White Bear Lake; eight grandchildren, Larry (Pat) Bertrand, Roger (Linda) Bertrand, Steven (Mary) Bertrand, David (Julia) Bertrand, Carol (Frank) Anderson, Donna (Reg) Stark, Calvin Olson, Doug (Kari Hrncir) Olson; 21 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held October 24 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman with the Rev. Dale Olson officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Larry Bertrand, Roger Bertrand, Steven Bertrand, David Bertrand, Calvin Olson and Douglas Olson. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Burial was at Wennersborg Cemetery in Kensington.
