Frances Mary Wood, 71, Alexandria, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Alexandria.

Frances Mary Wood, 71, Alexandria, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Alexandria.

Frances was born October 29, 1937 to Clarence and Mary (Joyce) Rothbauer in St. Paul. She grew up in St. Paul and attended public school, graduating from Murray High School. Following her education she was united in marriage to Gerald Steidl at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Following their marriage, they lived in Carlos.

She was united in marriage to Delmer Wood on September 3, 1982 in Alexandria. Following their marriage, they made their home in Forada, where she worked as an over-the-road trucker with her husband. She worked with the disabled at Prairie Community Service in Alexandria and as a waitress/cook at the Muddy Boot in Forada. Her husband, Delmer died September 20, 2002. Following his death she continued living in Forada until moving into Diamond Willow Assisted Living.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, V.F.W. Post #936 Auxiliary and American Legion Post #87 Auxiliary. She was a former member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Nelson. She enjoyed knitting, reading, sewing, embroidery, baking and cooking.

Frances is survived by a son, Ken (Julie) Steidl of Independence, Missouri; three daughters, Debbie Steidl of St. Paul, Joyce Weaver and Marsha (Scott) Butkowski, both of Carlos; brother, Timothy (Kathy) Timm of Champlin; sister-in-law, Karen Timm of Java, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, David, Kristy, Kathy and Angie; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends from Forada and Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer; daughter, Valerie; son, Ronald; parents, Clarence Rothbauer; Mary and Emil Timm; and a brother, Richard Timm.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Nelson with the Rev. Mark Astrup officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Kristi Wussow and vocalist, Shawna Weaver. Burial will take place at Nelson City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyrone Lewis, Jeremy Timm, Chad Rud, Carl Henning, Mike “Butch” Timm and Craig Storlein.

Visitation will be Friday, October 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
