Kelsey was born August 13, 1984, the daughter of Russell and Sheila (Erickson) Holtan in Thief River Falls.
Kelsey was born August 13, 1984, the daughter of Russell and Sheila (Erickson) Holtan in Thief River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. Kelsey attended school in Thief River Falls. In grade school, she was a Girl Scout and participated in the Thief River Falls ice shows. She graduated in 2003 from Lincoln High School.
While in high school, she worked at Hugo’s grocery store as a cashier. There she met her “Danny” as he worked in the produce department. They were high school sweethearts. She furthered her education at Alexandria Technical College. During this time she worked at Mills Fleet Farm. She graduated from Alexandria Technical College in 2005 from the Administrative Assistant Program. Shortly before graduation, she started work at TWF Industries in Alexandria as an administrative assistant, where she had been employed for the past four years.
Kelsey and Danny were married on February 1, 2005 in Cancun, Mexico. During Kelsey’s short time with Danny, they had three children, Brock, 3-1/2, Lexi, 2, and Bryce, 2 months. Kelsey loved her “Danny” and their children. Kelsey loved to giggle and had a special bond with her sisters, mom and dad. She loved scrapbooking, country music, all water sports, suntanning, snowboarding and planning motorcycle trips.
Kelsey always came with her camera in hand. She loved to bake, especially anything with chocolate. She was great to remember special occasions with a card.
Little Bryce was born July 19, 2009 and two days later, Kelsey was transferred to the ICU in Alexandria, diagnosed with ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome). On July 26, 2009 Kelsey was transferred to the critical care ICU at St. Cloud Hospital, where she remained until September 27, 2009 when she passed away with her family by her side.
Kelsey is survived by her husband, Danny; her three children, Brock, Lexi and Bryce; parents, Russ and Sheila Holtan of Thief River Falls; sisters, Katrina Holtan and fiancé, Larry Tollefson, of Fargo; Kassi (Jeremy) Srnsky of Thief River Falls; grandpa and grandma, Virgil and Cathy “Grandma Polka” Erickson of Middle River; nieces and nephews, Brooke and Brody Tollefson, Maysie and Keenan Srnsky; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and special friends, Katie Walseth and Samatha Alby.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joe and Mabel Holtan.
A parish prayer service was held Thursday, October 1 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating.
Pallbearers were Paul Piche, Andy Erickson, Patrick Erickson, Paul Erickson, Tim Erickson, Larry Tollefson, Katie Walseth and Samatha Alby. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alexandria.
