Joan was born December 23, 1934 in Norcross to Sylvan and Irene Apland. She grew up and graduated from school in Elbow Lake. On March 3, 1955 she was united in marriage to Richard Edward Bullick and moved to a farm in Douglas County where they raised their four boys.
In 1971, they moved to Alexandria and opened Bullick’s Board and Lodging Home, which they ran for 31 years. Joan received an award for her many years of service to the residents of Douglas County.
Joan enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her huge heart and great generosity. She loved to give and receive hugs and never spoke a harsh word to anyone. The last words that our mother said was, “I love you.”
Joan is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard; four sons, Albert (Judy) Bullick of Alexandria, Kenneth (Rose) Bullick of Alexandria, Richard (Stephanie) Bullick of Brandon and Robert Bullick of Hoffman; foster son, Art Ross; brother, Jerald Apland of Barrett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Agnes Wolff of Alexandria; aunt, Ethel Hokanson of Herman; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Jacqueline Apland, Sylvan Apland Jr., Marlys Smith, James Apland, Richard Apland and Katherine Kjorness; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Bullick.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, September 30 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Lyle Schober and Roy Williams officiating. Music was provided by Bud Anderson, Ruth Anderson and Rhonda Navratil.
Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Herman. Casket bearers were Robert Stier, Roy Springer, David Bestland, Vernon Foner, Roger Quick and Daryl Quick.
