Hazel Viola Iverson, 95, Parkers Prairie, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
Hazel was born October 5, 1913 to Samuel R. and Agnes J. (Hennagir) Horner in Oak Valley Township, Deer Creek. She was baptized on April 22, 1942. She grew up in the Deer Creek and Parkers Prairie area. She attended country school.
Hazel married Sheldon F. Iverson on November 26, 1929 in Fergus Falls. They farmed in Elmo Township, where they raised their family. Following their retirement from farming in 1971, they moved into Parkers Prairie. She worked in housekeeping at St. William’s Living Center for 16 years. Her husband, Sheldon, died in 1983. Hazel moved into St. William’s Living Center in December 2007. She was a member of Elmo Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She enjoyed cooking, vegetable gardening, dancing, playing the piano and entertaining her family.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Olson of Parkers Prairie and Gloria (Michael Brygger) Iverson of Alexandria; two sons, Willard (Irene) Iverson of Alexandria and Roger (Valeryn Sue) Iverson of Willmar; sister, Stella Bushman of California; brothers, Morgan Horner of Andover and Dean (Val) Horner of Forreston; eight grandchildren, Timothy (Missy) Iverson, Tammy (Mitch) Gjersvik, Troy (Devedah) Iverson, Todd (Marcie) Iverson, Tanya (Brian) Hinrichs, Trent (Jill) Iverson, Cynthia (Bob) Montbriand and Delaine (Dennis) Jipson; two step-grandchildren, Scott (Dianne) Brygger and Chris (Lee) Loew; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sheldon; sisters, Dorothy, Gladys and Lillian; and brothers, Melvin, Marion “Pat“, Silas and Calvin.
Funeral services were held May 11 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Ken Moenck officiating. Music was provided by organist, Julie Lindgren and vocalists, Mitch and Tammy Gjersvik. Burial was at Elmo Lutheran Cemetery in Parkers Prairie. Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

My condolences to Hazel's Family, as I just found out about her death. I am a Cousin on her Father Samuel's side of the Horner Family. My Grandmother Cora (Horner) South was Samuel Ray Horner's Brother. I grew up in the Hewitt, MN area. My Father Stanley South and Hazel are First Cousibns. I have been doing Family History on the Horner Family for many years. I just wanted to offer my condolences and at any time if any of the Horner Family want any Family information etc.-please do not hesitate to contact me.
