Roger was born February 27, 1937 in Elbow Lake to Bert and Alma (Frahm) Christianson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Elbow Lake until 1948, when his family moved to Evansville. After Roger graduated from Evansville public school in 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from December 1955 to November 1959. Roger worked at Waldorf Paper in St. Cloud, U.S. Slicing Machine Company in Rockford, IL, and at Badger Northland in Owatonna.
On August 24, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Phyllis Maus at Osakis Lutheran Church. Roger worked at Christianson Implement in Evansville and Amundson Equipment in Elbow Lake. In 1986, Roger and Phyllis moved to Osakis where they owned and operated a fast food restaurant and campground. During this time, Roger was also employed at Hillig Implement in Long Prairie. In 1997, they moved back to the Evansville area, where Roger worked at the hardware store until retiring in June 2000.
Roger was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he had served on the Church Council. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 188, served as a youth league advisor and was a member of the Commercial Club. Roger enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, trap shooting and restoring John Deere pedal tractors. He also loved hunting, fishing, watching sports and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Roger is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Timothy (Terri) Christianson; two grandsons, Brandon and Bradee Christianson of Evansville; two granddaughters, Melissa (Aaron) Olson of Ashby and Michelle (Troy) Lohse of Elbow Lake; three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter; sister, Janice Burstyn of East Aurora, NY; stepsister, Marilyn Conrad of St. Cloud; stepbrother, Russell Anderson of Morris; step-brother-in-law, Loren Waa of Louisville, KY; several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen; parents, Bert and Alma Christianson; stepmother, Helen Hjelm Anderson Christianson; stepbrothers, Dennis and Brian Anderson; stepsister, Dorothy Anderson Waa; brother-in-law, Edwin Burstyn; and step-brother-in-law, Donald Conrad.
Services were held May 2 at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville with the Rev. Irving J. Arnquist officiating.
Burial was at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville.
