Donna was born August 8, 1949 in Graceville to James and Theresa (Guenther) Whelan. Donna was raised in Alexandria, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967.
Donna worked at various jobs following her schooling. She was a hard worker and she made a special effort to educate herself about the business world. She worked as a purchasing manager. In 2005 Donna retired from Empi, Inc., a medical supply company.
Donna loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed going fishing and watching the birds. She liked to garden vegetables and flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Harker of Osakis; one daughter, Lorie Lessard and husband, Andrew, of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren, Cory and Sarah Lessard; three stepchildren, Rick Harker and wife, Lynn, of Plymouth, Scott Harker of Cambridge, and Jill Anderson and husband, Steve, of Big Lake; six stepgrandchildren; three brothers, John Whelan and wife, Ann, of Richfield, Jerome Whelan and wife, Nona, of Golden Valley, and Michael Whelan and wife, Elaine, of Lakeville; two sisters, Colleen Dierckes and husband, Robert, of Sauk Centre, and Pat Kvanbek of Evansville; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Fr. Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Casket bearers included Rick Harker, Chris Whelan, Jeff Whelan, Cory Lessard, Scott Harker, Greg Kvanbek and Brad Kvanbek.
