Former Lake Park resident Vernette Christensen, 100, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., all in the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes, with interment following at Oakgrove Cemetery in Lake Park.

Former Lake Park resident Vernette Christensen, 100, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

Vernette Severson was born the daughter of Peter and Severina Severson on April 17, 1908 at Lake Park. She graduated from Lake Park High School and went on to attend St. Cloud State College. In 1948 she married Orris Christensen at Lake Park.

Vernette worked for her brother, Kermit, at Severson’s Clothing Store in Lake Park for many years. She was a member of Lake Park Lutheran Church. Vernette entered the nursing home in August 2000.

Surviving family members include a nephew, Robert (Nancy) Severson of Hallock, Minn.; and two nieces, Nancy (George) Nyberg of Cook, Minn., and Norma Matheson of Goodyear, Ariz.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Orris (1998); a brother, Kermit Severson; and a sister, Stella Hawkinson.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., all in the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes, with interment following at Oakgrove Cemetery in Lake Park.

The Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock, Minn., is handling arrangements.
