Shawn A. Severson, 38, of Fargo, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, following a very brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, with visitation for one hour before the funeral.

Shawn A. Severson, 38, of Fargo, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, following a very brief battle with cancer.

Shawn Ann “Shawner” Severson was born to Russell and Peggy (Petermann) Severson on Feb. 4, 1970 in Warrenville, Ill. She grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating from Fargo North High School in 1988. Shawn learned to live independently in 1991 with the assistance of her caring and supportive trainers, job coaches and caseworkers.

Shawn moved into her dream home in September 2007. She had worked for the past 11 years as a custodian at Fargo South High School.

Shawn enjoyed spending time with her family and thought the world of her sister Jodi, brother-in-law Erin, and her nephews Mason, Owen and Jack. She loved her significant other Steve, best friend Jodi, and her cat, P.D. Her favorite things included traveling, eating out, sharing bonfires and taking boat rides at the lake with her family.

Shawn enjoyed attending rock concerts with Steve and celebrating all things patriotic.

Surviving Shawn are her parents, Russell and Peggy Severson of Detroit Lakes; sister Jodi (Erin) O’Brien and their three children, of Rogers, Minn.; grandmothers Lorilee Petermann of Hawley and Florence Severson of Aurora, Ill.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved family friends.

Preceding Shawn in death were her grandfathers, Ed Severson and Chuck Petermann.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, with visitation for one hour before the funeral.
