Former Ogema-area resident Arlene J. Engelmeier, 70, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Henning, Minn. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogema, on Thursday, Dec. 4. Funeral services are scheduled to start at 12 noon on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Stohs officiating. Interment will follow at the Ogema Cemetery, White Earth Township, Becker County. Olson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls is handling arrangements. Former Ogema-area resident Arlene J. Engelmeier, 70, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Henning, Minn.

Arlene Joan Safar was born to Joseph and Lillian (Olson) Safar on Aug. 28, 1938, in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and lived near Ogema and attended school in Ogema, then graduated from Waubun in 1956. She went to college in Bemidji for two years, then worked for New York Life for 32 years, until she retired.

Arlene married Harvey Engelmeier on January 22, 1977 in Spring Lake Park, Minn. Harvey said that she was the most pleasant person he had ever known. They enjoyed traveling and she enjoyed family gatherings.

Survivors include her husband, Harvey, of Fergus Falls; one stepson, Donny; one granddaughter; two sisters, Sharon (Melvin) Wischnak, and Beverly (Ray) Andersen, both of Frazee; four brothers, Ron (Betty), and Rick (Shel) Safar, both of Ogema, Joe (Joan) Safar of Waubun, and Duane (Barb) Safar of Ogema; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Arlene in death were her parents, Joseph and Lillian, a sister, Elaine, and a niece, Tammy.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogema, on Thursday, Dec. 4.
