Frank B. Greenough, 90, of Detroit Lakes, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, after he succumbed to a brief illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Detroit Lakes. Memorials to his church are preferred. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.

Frank B. Greenough, 90, of Detroit Lakes, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, after he succumbed to a brief illness.
Frank Burt Greenough was born on May 14, 1918 in Barnesville, Minn., and graduated from Crookston (Minn.) High School. He was a 1940 graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, and married classmate Betty Hill in 1941 in Madelia, Minn.
During World War II, Frank served in the U.S. Army, stationed on the Galapagos Islands. He spent a 30-year professional career in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1972 he and Betty relocated from Chicago, Ill., to Detroit Lakes, and purchased the Birch Bark Gift Shop there.
Frank was a loving patriarch of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, involved in its activities at all levels. He volunteered for several years at the Tamarac Refuge. He and Betty enjoyed living on Lake Six in the Vergas area for many years, before moving to the Madison in Detroit Lakes last year.
Frank was known for his gentle humor, his wisdom, his fascination with ideas and the time he took to listen to others. He is survived by his wife Betty; daughter Mary (Tom) Darnall; son Bruce Greenough; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. His local family includes a sister, Catherine Granger, nieces and nephews, Jeff (Suzanne) Granger, Robin (Doug) Friendshuh and Jim (Carol) Granger, as well as several great nieces and great nephews.
