Marian Edna Suckstorff, 86, Alexandria, formerly of Starbuck, died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at her son Gerry’s home in Starbuck, surrounded by her family.
Marian was born March 8, 1926 to Martin and Josie (Dahl) Rust in Glenwood. She was a city girl, attending Glenwood High School, then moving to the Cities, where she was employed by a lefsa factory. (She always made fantastic lefsa.)
Marian loved to dance and hence met husband, Lester Suckstorff, who also loved to waltz. Marian and Lester were united in marriage on September 9, 1950 and rented a farm in Gilchrist Township. Marian became a country girl, milking cows, gardening, and running after chickens and pigs. In 1964, the couple purchased a farm south of Starbuck, where they farmed and raised their children. In 1990, they retired to Glenwood until moving to Windmill Ponds in Alexandria in November 2003.
Marian was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved entertaining. She loved playing all sorts of board games, card games, watching Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. Marian also had a passion for reading and crossword puzzles.
Marian had lots of wonderful friends at Windmill Ponds. She especially loved her visits with her special friend and companion, Vi Carrico, who took her shopping and to coffee outings.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marian is survived by children, Marsha (Gene) Kuschel of Jacksonville, FL, Amy Suckstorff of Spicer, Arlene (Tom) Troness of Sauk Rapids, Ann (Ray) Nygaard of Linwood, Gerry (Peggy) Suckstorff of Starbuck, Avis (Paul) Lesniak of Oak Grove, and Alice (Sam) Knapp of Farwell; 14 grandchildren, Justin (Terri) Troness, Joseph (Tara) Troness, Jesse Troness, John Troness, Ryan (Sarah) Nygaard, Joshua Nygaard, Amber Nygaard, Bradley Nygaard, Chris Fults, Aaron Fults, Derek Lesniak, Stephanie Lesniak, Amanda Lesniak and Erika Knapp; nine great- grandchildren, Roy, Nick, Nathan, Carter, Mya, Conner, Jayvyn, Lucas and Arlo; three sisters-in-law, Emline Hagen, Sauk Rapids, Geri Rust, Sioux Falls, SD, and Sharon Rust, Rosemont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian passed away peacefully as Jesus took her hands and reunited her once again with her beloved Lester (2003). She was also preceded in death by infant son, Leroy; her parents; sisters, Ester Rust, Hazel Denzer, Frances Cook; and brothers, Oscar, Morris, Henry, Clifford, Art and Donald.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 7 at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Interment was at Fron Lutheran Cemetery.
