Marilyn married Roger Olson on August 20, 1955. She is the mother of Lynne (Glen) Olson-Rommesmo of Fargo, ND, Heidi (Mike) Olson-Fitzgerald of Moorhead, Sara (Paul) Hanson of Alexandria, and Mark (Sara) Olson of Walker. Grandchildren include Matt F., Jacob H., Adam F., Abby H., Kate F., Alyssa H., Boysen O. and Palmer O. Daniel (Autumn) R., and Jennifer (Sascha) R.; great grandchildren are Hadley R and Kimberly R.

She was the second of four children born to Bert and Alice (Haas) Olson at Baldwin, Wisconsin. She was born July 22, 1934, nurtured and raised on a dairy farm. Education included a one-room country school near Baldwin and Baldwin High School. She graduated from UW Eau Claire, fulfilling a dream of becoming a teacher.

Marilyn taught public schools in Eau Claire, WI, St. Paul, Gully and Moorhead, MN and Fargo, ND. While teaching at Probstfield Elementary in Moorhead, she was Moorhead Teacher of the Year 1981.

Marilyn was involved with various caring groups, church women circles, Via de cristo, and PEO. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran in Park Rapids.

Marilyn loved her family and home, guest meals, delighted in her grandchildren, praying for her students, loved the classroom, seeking out the lost, baking apple pie, lots of flowers and gardens, feeding hungry birds, Saturday morning breakfasts, and Itasca State Park

Marilyn’s sibling family includes her brother, David (Joan) Olson and her two sisters, Beverly Olson and Sharon (Jerry) Afdahl.

Preceding deaths include her parents, numerous relatives and lots of friends and neighbors.

Her family expresses special thanks to the St. Joesph’s, Essentia and Sanford medical and nursing staffs, Heritage, Diamond Willow caring communities.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.

Visitation is Friday, February 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Her son, Pastor Mark Olson, Pastor Stephen Norby and Pastor Sara Jensen will officiate. Interment will be held at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Dorset.

The family plans to use memorial gifts to establish scholarship funding for educational opportunities in health care.
