Allen Sivert Lund, 86, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, following a brief illness.

Allen was born May 11, 1926 on a farm in Hantho Township to Alvin J. and Thora (Nelson) Lund. He was baptized and confirmed at Minnesota Valley Church. He graduated in 1944 from Appleton High School.

Allen was drafted into the Army and served from just after graduation until 1946 when he was discharged. He was stationed in Shanghai, China.

On December 28, 1957 Allen married Evelyn Jensen. They lived in Appleton, where they raised three children, Janet, Jerrie and Janine.

Allen worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1961-1986. He has been quoted, “I have walked so much I would have circled the Earth three times!” He continued to enjoy walking until he became sick. You could have asked him about any address in Appleton and he could tell you who had lived there, even 25 to 30 years after retiring.

While working for the U.S. Postal Service, he was a volunteer fire fighter from 1961-1983. He was the custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton for 40 years and very involved in the VFW in Appleton as quartermaster for 30 years.

Allen enjoyed spending time with his family. He could often be found rolling around on the floor when the grandkids were younger. He looked forward to the Fourth of July as the whole family would go to the cabin in Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and gardening. He enjoyed dancing every Friday and Sunday evening. He loved playing cards at Arabella Manor and bridge at the Senior Center. Allen also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and any sports on television.

In October 2009 they moved to the Arabella Manor in Alexandria, where they met and made many new friends.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn; children, Janet (Jeff) Konieczny of Willmar, Jerrie (Julie) Lund of Alexandria, Janine (Rhonda Andreen) of Brooklyn Center; eight grandchildren, Erin (Doug) Zierden of St. Cloud, Adrienne, Katelyn, Mitchell and Matthew Konieczny, Ashley, Brett and Callie Lund; great-grandchild, Riley Zierden; brothers, James (Yvonne) Lund of Odessa, Harlan (Erma) Lund of Rolfe, IA; Donald (Yvette) Lund of Chino Hills, CA; sisters, Arlene (Carl) Maas of Odessa and Gladys Uphoff of Cloquet; and several nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Lund; nephews, Michael Lund, Mark Maas, Troy Snow; and niece, Mavon Kalberg.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton with the Rev. Tim Renstrom officiating.

Interment will be at Appleton Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4955 and the Minnesota National Guard Honors.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net.
