Clare Kangas, 77, passed away on February 3, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Home in Battle Lake.

Clare Kangas, 77, passed away on February 3, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Home in Battle Lake.

Clare was born in Brandon on June 27, 1935, the son of Henry and Stella (Heikkinen) Kangas. He attended District #45 school in Moe Township and graduated from Kensington High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Church in Moe Township.

Clare was in the military from 1953 to 1958. After the military, he lived and farmed in Urness Township. He was united in marriage to Doreen Bachman on December 14, 1975 in Brandon. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Cory and Casey.

Clare loved farming, raising cattle, driving truck, hunting, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Cory; and two sisters, Phyllis and Lori.

He is survived by his son, Casey Kangas, of Brandon; brothers, Phillip (Rosie) Kangas of Alexandria, Jack (Josie) Kangas of Kensington, and Marvin (Dorothy) Kangas of Brandon; sisters, Lucille Elliot of Reno Township and Jean (Gordon) Root of Aitkin; brother-in-law, Les Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held for Clare on Thursday, February 7 at 2 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria with the Rev. Giles Ekola officiating. Interment was at the Finnish Apostolic Church Cemetery in Moe Township. Casket bearers were Reed Becker, Ricky Arneson, Dean Kangas, Matt Kangas, Brian Wilson and Kyle Kangas. Honorary casket bearers were Kevin Kangas, Jennifer Arneson, Laura Wilson, Theresa Kangas, and nieces and nephews.
