Julie was born March 2, 1950 in Clarkfield to Olaf and Ina (Wilson) Risa. She was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church in Hazel Run. Julie graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1968. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education in 1972. She lived and taught school in Colorado for many years.
On September 23, 1977, Julie married Jay M. Levan and moved to Benson, Minnesota, where they operated Levan Motor Company until Jay’s death in November of 1989. She then worked at the Motor Vehicle License Department in Benson. Julie married David Hard on September 10, 1996. The couple moved to Lake Ida and enjoyed the lakes.
Julie enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing bridge, at which she was a master, and wintering in Arizona. She will always be remembered for her wonderful smile and sense of humor, and the way she cared for her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, David, of Alexandria; stepchildren, Amber (Ryan) Bond of Evanston, IL, and Andrew (fiancé, Megan Manni) of Delmar, CA; grandchildren, Tristan and Rowan Bond; sister, Kathryn (Dennis) Dyrdahl of New London; brother, Ronald (Lori) Risa of Clarkfield; niece, Beth A. Schmidt; nephews, James J. Schmidt, Nathan (Joanie) Schmidt, Todd (Lori) Risa, and Jeff (Brenda) Risa.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Ina; husband, Jay Levan; and brother-in-law, James J. Schmidt Sr.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 18 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Visitation is Thursday, January 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
