Malvern was born February 17, 1936 in Moe Township. His grandparents, John and Minnie Olson, raised him. He attended country school through eighth grade at District 5 in Moe Township. Malvern graduated from Brandon High School in 1954.
While in high school, Malvern enjoyed sports and played high school basketball and baseball. He also liked to go hunting and fishing.
In the mid-1950s, Malvern enlisted for military service. Following his discharge, he worked out West at several different construction jobs. Later he worked at a ranch in Montana.
Malvern continued his education and received a master’s degree in psychology. He worked in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA in human services. He worked at state hospitals for the insane, provided counseling services and served as a social worker.
Malvern enjoyed living on the Pacific coast. He loved the outdoors. Malvern liked to spend time hiking throughout the Northwest. Snake River Canyon was one of his favorite places; another favorite was the beaches of Oregon. Malvern was an avid reader, enjoyed classical music and liked to paint with oils and watercolors. He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.
Malvern is survived by two half-sisters, Mia Sakai and husband Michael and family and Caroline Sakai and husband, Darob Khadem, and family from the East Coast; his uncle, Mervin Olson and wife, Delores, of Minneapolis; several cousins including, Ken Esala and wife, Jan, of Garfield, Charles Esala and wife, Jean, of Brandon, Kathryn Davis and husband, Wally, of Baudette, David Esala of Baudette, and Norman Esala of Brandon.
A private family interment will be completed at a later date in Moe Township.
