After wastewater is treated in the ALASD plant, a process that takes about eight hours, it is discharged into Lake Winona. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is currently developing a plan to reduce phosphorus levels in the lake, which likely will result in increased sewer and tax rates for citizens in the district.
